Women's Cancer

Early Detection of Breast Cancer Outreach - Breast cancer is one of a woman's worst fears, and it is never an easy topic to discuss. The problem is compounded for traditional and underserved segments of the population, as they are often unaware of the importance of early detection and the great strides that have been made in this area.

To combat this lack of information, Beit Natan has launched an aggressive educational campaign and in the past eight years more than 7,000 traditional women in Jerusalem have attended lectures on this topic.

Since 2004, Beit Natan has adopted a new methodology to reach out to women across Israel. In cooperation with the Israeli HMO’s, Beit Natan has trained a “peer-group” staff who call women (over 50) in the designated underserved sectors (Orthodox, traditional and older Russian immigrants). The goal is to educate and encourage them to go for ther bi-annual mammogram. To date, we have reached some 10,000 women with a improvement compliance rate of 12% for those women who received the intervention.

From the outset, the Israel Cancer Association and the UJA/NY Federation have supported this important work, with the Susan G. Komen Foundation, an international foundation in the field of breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment funding a major part of the budget in 2007.
